Car Crushing
The Motor Insurer's Bureau (MIB) has just launched its new Stay Insured campaign. According to the MIB there are a staggering 1.7M motorists who take to the roads daily without proper insurance. Last year the number of drivers caught without insurance would have filled Wembley Stadium twice over. You may have already heard about the increasing numbers of uninsured vehicles being seized by the police. Vehicles seized and crushed would have filled the Channel Tunnel nose to tail in both directions. This is great news for the honest motorists who are subsidising these cheats.
However, you may not know that the accuracy and currency of the Motor Insurance Database (MID) has a direct impact on the success of this campaign to take uninsured vehicles off the roads. Every month, the MIB sends lists of vehicles to the police which are suspected of being uninsured - this list shows vehicles that have vanished from the database, and not reappeared for sometime.
In the first 9 months of last year, the police made over 18M enquiries of the MID. That's one enquiry every 1.3 seconds!
Fleet managers must take this issue seriously and consult with us to ensure they do not become the next statistic in this increasingly concerning area. We can help review your procedures and ensure your compliance with MID regulations.
